Detach

Detached: separate or disconnected, FREE.

What a tough word and yet so on time in the season that I am in. The Lord has sat that word in in sprit for almost 3 weeks now. The first time He spoke this word, I was in Church and service had not yet started. I was visiting the church I planted with my late husband and heard the word in my spirit…detach. I thought, what do you mean Lord. Detach from what? In my head I thought something completely different from what Apostle Femi was about to lay on my heart. Detach Cristina… Okay Lord, show me where.

As the Apostle began to lay out the word and even prophesy over my life I began to understand why the Lord told me to detach. I needed to continue to detach from the past. Believe me, I have let a lot go and truly have trusted God through this season of change. It has not been easy but God has given me the grace in order to push forward through the process. When God gives you grace to do something, it is as if you have a supernatural strength to accomplish it. To others it seems impossible to do, but for you it is possible and seems doable. There are tears many times but it is possible. You see more than what is in front of you. You see for the Kingdom. You see for the greater, you see more than what is before you.

The way of the righteous is smooth; O Upright One, make the path of the righteous level.” – Isaiah 26:7

I heard such a significant part of his message and I needed to remind myself of this very thing.  When Apostle Femi compared visionaries to Historians, it was a slap in my face. Historians can only look in the past. They never look for a hopeful future, they never see more than what was already done, BUT a visionary – they are able to see possibilities, change, hope. They are able to see God’s heart in a different way. God is such an intentional God and He is intentionally looking to see how HE can bless your future. He sees your past, BUT he is not stuck in your past. He does not live in the hopes of your past. He is a God who is ready to do a miracle in your future, He is intentional about seeing your future be the best it could ever be. So why are we stuck in the past of the could have, would have, or should have’s? Why do we live for the past? Was ae there so many historians and not enough visionaries?

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 1:6

God is ready to do a new work, God is willing to say- beloved I am ready to start something so different and so radical in your life, can you see it? Are you ready? Are you willing to DETACH?

Many times detaching will allow you to receive the new that God has for your life. How are you able to grow if you are still living and attached to your past? You can’t. you stay stuck and attached to bondage or slavery or a life that is not living to its full potential.

Sometimes detachment will also cause you to let go of people that are not edifying you.  Man that is a hard pill to swallow. Like I preached a few months ago, there may be people that will start the race with you, but they may not be the ones that end the race with you.  There are times when you need to detach from people that are not edifying the calling upon your life (spouses I am NOT referring to you guys). There are some tuff decisions that you will make but if they are not able to be Kingdom minded and help you move forward in the calling over your life… if they can’t look forward to what Jesus has in store from you and them…my friend it is time to detach.

Detaching hurts, it is sacrificial at times but when you learn to allow God to build your future and what God gives is perfect… detaching from the things and people that do not edify should be a no brainer. You will be graced to detach. You will be able to show that God’s plan for you is better than what you thought.

He sees your opportunity, are you ready to detach from those things that were beautifully placed in your past (honor it but don’t live in it) and say I am ready to be the visionary that you have called me to be? I am ready to grow Jesus. I am ready for the next level. I am ready to Detach!

  1. Here is something to considering when comparing visionaries to historians. While it is obvious that historians “can only look in the past” because the definition of history is a “record of past events” consider also the possibility that historians also view the past as a frame of reference for the future. For example, the past can be used to understand where one came from in order to appreciate where one is as well as look towards or plan (like a visionary) where one can go. Everyone in the world is a some point a historian. We experience something, get over it, move on. Whenever it comes back, we remember how to handle or avoid it altogether. The Bible makes a point to never forget the past and to use past mistakes in order to avoid them when moving forward (1 Cor 10.1-13). In this case, the visionary “can see the possibilities” of the future, and, at the same time, plan to avoid past mistakes accordingly because of the historical reference they have.

You are right that God is “intentional about seeing your future.” At the same time, God is biblical about looking back, because it helps when looking forward.

    • Great points and I agree. Definitely not negating what you mentioned above. Well said.
My point in this writing though is not to stay in the past. The past is beautiful for some and not so beautiful for others, but the future and the present is where we should focus the majority of our energy. Honor the past, let it guide you not to make same mistakes, honor the Word and even commandments. Obey them… don’t disregard them! They are key!!!
